Aqeeqah

A child is a greatest gift of Allah. No family is complete with this blessing of Allah. Life of women is incomplete if she doesn’t have a child though she has to go though hardship. It is a joy that a mother wants to have even after the most tough and painful time of her life. To have a child is the most over whelming feeling for the parents. It is a beginning of a new life just like a blooming flower in the spring season. A child is like Spreading fragrance, joy, happiness when born. This is the reason that the joy is celebrated in the form of aqeeqah.

Aqeeah is derived from an abaci word. This means to cut and shave off the hair of a newborn. It is the time when a Childs hair is cut. His hair is shaven off on the 7th day of the birth of a new born. It is the Sunnah off the last Prophet to slaughter a sheep or a number of sheep. Then invite people on the event of joy of the newborn to have a meal with you and to share joy with them.

The celebration can be delayed but should not be delayed much so the purpose of the celebration is not lost. This is strongly recommended but it is not an obligation. It is a sacrifice of an animal carried out by the family of a child. Following is the distribution of the meat of aqeeqah:

· One third to charity.

· Two thirds to be distributed amongst friends and relatives.

In case if a family is unable to afford it there is no balme on the part of the person as Allah says in the holy Quran that:

"God does not charge a soul with more than it can reasonably undertake."
